The Mediterranean scrub is rich in native plants and flowers, as well as plants and flowers that have subsequently integrated into this area.
Among the characteristic ones, here are some examples:
Laurel

A plant with a thousand-year history that has always been cultivated in the Mediterranean.
Even in Ancient Greece, poets and victors could wear a crown made of these leaves, just like Apollo. Emperor Julius Caesar himself appeared in public wearing a laurel wreath; according to the historian Suetonius, the emperor often wore the crown to hide his baldness.
Heart note: warm, rich with herbaceous notes.
Jasmine

A flower cultivated in Ancient Rome, but one that brings to mind "One Thousand and One Nights." Many avenues and hedges around Vesuvius are adorned with this fragrant flower. Energizing, relaxing, and aphrodisiac.
Native to Asia, it is considered the King of flowers; it is no coincidence that its name Jasmin derives from the Persian Jasameen, meaning Gift of God.
Heart note: strong, very sensual, oriental; fresh in the top notes, becoming warmer and more enveloping.
Broom

Just look at Vesuvius in spring, completely adorned with broom, which gives it a distinctive yellow color. There are many varieties, but my favorite is the fragrant broom. An inspiration to poets.
«Here on the arid back / of the formidable mountain / exterminator Vesuvius...»
sung by the poet Leopardi in his poem “La ginestra”, its unmistakable scent is unique in the Vesuvian landscape.
Heart note: floral, fresh, very sweet; unique and unmistakable.
Eucalyptus

The introduction of eucalyptus into the Vesuvian area is believed to be due in part to its ability to combat the proliferation of the Anopheles mosquito, which causes malaria. With the valuable assistance of this plant, malaria has been eradicated from the area.
This well-known plant is known for its strong propensity to absorb water, reducing marshy areas. The scent of its leaves has long been used in pharmacy for its balsamic and purifying properties.
Top note: balsamic, fresh, camphoraceous.
Rosemary

Its name reflects its origin: Rosmarinus, meaning "sea dew," due to the blue color of its flowers, which resemble drops of sea dew. It is the quintessential Mediterranean essence. Its scent immediately brings to mind long, rolling coastlines. The Queen of Hungary's wonderful water, obtained from rosemary leaves, was considered an elixir of eternal youth.
Heart note: fresh, aromatic, camphorous and partly woody in the base notes.
Pink pepper

A native South American plant, it is used as an ornamental plant in these regions. Its fragrant berries give off an aroma similar to pepper.
Heart note: fresh and woody with a sweetish scent.
